The debate over which sounds better; tubes or transistors is still going strong after forty years. McIntosh has led in both technologies and with the C1000, McIntosh raises the bar once again.

The C1000 is a three chassis design that allows the customer the flexibility to choose solid state, vacuum tube or both. All three modules can be combined for the ultimate in flexibility, with each source available through either preamplification module, selectable at the push of a remote control button.

Music handling is accomplished in its own Dual Mono, preamplification module, yielding over 130 dB of channel separation for ultimate stereo fidelity.

  • McIntosh C200
    Preamplifier/Controller

    # Awarded one of Stereophile Magazine's Recommended Components for 2005 and 2006
    # Dual Chassis Stereo Preamplifier
    # Fully Balanced - Input to Output
    # Inputs Fully Isolated From Switching and Power Activities
    # 7 Source Inputs
    # Balanced and Unbalanced Tape Loops
    # Separate MM and MC Phono Stages
    # Three Pairs of Outputs - Two Switched

    Quick Facts

The extraordinary C200 is fully balanced from input to output - a configuration that essentially cancels all distortion. The precision volume control has four matched sections and the main gain stage uses four matched amplifiers operating in a push-pull. Even unbalanced signals are converted to and processed as balanced signals.

The Preamplifier chassis, which contains only audio circuits and inputs/outputs, is completely isolated from the power supply and the microprocessors, ensuring total noise rejection.

The Controller chassis contains the selector switches, digital display, all control microprocessors, and the power supply. After any switching operation, the control circuits are automatically turned off to eliminate any possibility of microprocessor noise reaching the audio circuits. The only connection between the Preamplifier and Controller is a 25-pin shielded case.

Wide Dynamic Range, a Discrete Output Stage, Digital IR Remote Control and more deliver the utmost in performance and convenience without compromise.

  • McIntosh C220

     - Vacuum Tube Preamplifier

    # 7 Unbalanced High-Level Inputs
    # 2 Balanced (XLR) Inputs & MM Phono
    # 3 Pairs Unbalanced Outputs
    # 2 Pair Switched + 1 Pair Fixed Outputs
    # 1 Pair Balanced (XLR) Outputs
    # 1/4" Front Panel Headphone Jack with Headphone Mode Mute

The McIntosh C220 is an amalgamation of McIntosh’ 56 year expertise in tube design and newly developed control circuits. It has all the flexibility modern systems require while maintaining the highest quality two channel performance.

As an example, all signal switching is done inside glass cylinders filled with inert gas. These switches are located adjacent to the input/output jacks, virtually eliminating crosstalk. Switch cleaning is a thing of the past.

The C220 allows for electronic, independent adjustment Level settings for each of the eight source inputs from either the front panel or remote control. Channel Balance is electronically adjusted and stored in memory.

The front panel ¼” Headphone Jack has a unique feature, Headphone Mode Mute. Press Mute to activate the normal loudspeaker mute mode then press the mute button in for approximately 3 seconds to activate the Headphone Mute Mode. From here adjust headphone volume and switch between sources.

Particular attention as been paid to the MM Phono Input. Its innovative circuit incorporates time-proven 12AX7 Vacuum Tubes. The brilliance of its design is reflected in both its simplicity and superior performance.

  • There is a reason for all those knobs on a McIntosh. Our customers told us that they prefer knobs to tiny buttons for many functions. That's why our volume controls are operated with large knobs. Our processors can be operated without wading through layer after layer of on-screen menus.
